MOVIE REVIEWS
Pitong Dalagita Review.
Yes, I am very much aware that this Crisaldo Pablo film shot in digital has been out there for years now, but, sad to say, I’ve only seen it now, and as you might notice, I have been compelled to really write a review on it.
Unlike other reviewers and critics who just rant or rave about a film, I try my very best to rationalize my critiques in an objective sense. So here I go with SCAM ( Story Cinematography and Direction Acting and Music)
Story: The plot was well weaved. The story was a well orchestrated literary winner. A harmonious symphony of emotions and feelings was delivered with great timing and precision, that nothing was predictable. The web like interconnection of various lives set against a very realistic impoverished urban Philippines had its very deep effect on me. I was able to find solace in many characters – Tina, the underappreciated girl who fights so relentlessly for the love of a young gay man. Cris, a striking and handsome young lad whose charm and homosexuality intertwined with intimacy and fate, led to a very startling climax and a delectably profound conclusion. Mr. Ruli, the resident guidance counselor who was a key character in the story who also struggled with his own demons, namingly his father and brother who undermined him because of his being gay. Joyce, whose innocence amalgamated all of the lives of the characters, set the note for this beautiful story.
I’m giving the film 9/10 for its superb story.
Cinematography and Direction: The camera shots were good - nothing unpleasant to the eyes but also nothing remarkable. I found the director able. He got the story and was able tell it in a very appreciable and light manner. For that he gets a huge Kudos from me.
For the C and D the flick gets 12/15
Acting: I felt each and everyone’s story and that’s something good. In cases wherein there is the intermingling of very varied lives, the acting is gravely essential and two thumbs up for the brilliant abilities of the young stars of the film. I personally congratulate Valerie Conception, Angelica Panganiban, Nadine Samonte and Jay-R Trinidad for their very strong acting(in order). I was bothered by the acting of Iwa Moto and the guy who played Mr. Ruli. I felt I needed more from Yasmien Kurdi and Christine Reyes and I also felt that Mr. Ruli’s sister should have been given a couple of lines. I loved Joyce’s Grandma, and I do appreciate the intensity of the narratives.
The film gets a 14/15 for its amazing acting.
Music: might be the least appreciated aspect of any film but nevertheless I see to it that I also review it. The music was very teen and it really blended with the characters’ personalities. I loved the (again) lightness of the whole film and I believe that the music played quite a vital role n it. The music was, yes, overly appropriate and very predictable but, it helps neutralize the complex nature of the story. KUDOS for that.
The sounds and music get a 5/5 from me.
Then we add.
40/45… not bad for a semi-indie film.
********-- eight out of ten stars… making this one of the better films I have seen this year.
